I have been worrying over this odd feature on an obscure plain in Peru for quite sometime. I keep going back and looking at it again and again, puzzling over its origins. Who or what made this? An alien race, an ancient civilization, a giant multi-legged creature? I will share some images from the web along with a brief description of the thing.
“The “Band of Holes” consists of approximately 6,900 unexplained man-sized holes carved into the barren rock near Pisco Valley, Peru on a plain called Cajamarquilla. It dates back to ancient times and remain a mystery much like neighboring Nazca Lines and Machu Piccu best appreciated from the air and satellite imagery.”

It suddenly occurred to me that this odd structure was made by someone desperately trying to find something they had previously buried and then forgotten exactly where. Either that, or it was made by a colony of giant, prehistoric doodlebugs (gigantodoodalus)!
The doodlebug, AKA ant lion, used to be much bigger. LOL And neater.

Eerie. How deep are the holes, and why hasn’t the wind covered them up by now? Strange. Now you’ve got my mind reeling. Thanks a lot! These images will haunt me. Haha! 😀
Hi Vashti! Glad to pique your interest. Yes, things like this bug me. Good questions all. They say some of the holes are 5-6 feet deep. Just plain eerie to see things like this. I don’t think there is much dust in the area and no rain fall to speak of, so erosion is probably extremely slow.
Are these not the remains of some kind of primitive mining, possibly for gems or precious metals? These tend to be found in veins or fault lines hence the narrow band. Look clearly hand dug too?
Surprisingly, I thought the same thing, but apparently there is nothing of value there now if there ever was. Definitely looks like someone was methodically searching for something. Intriguing, none-the-less.
[…] The Band of Holes On the side of the Nazca plateau in Peru there is a band of holes carved into the side of the mountain. They extend for over a mile and to this day nobody know who or why they were carved. Some interesting thoughts More images […]
